Ohiwa Harbour - a vast aquatic playground
Ohiwa harbour offers incredible wildlife, rich history, superb scenery and wonderful attractions in its 11km of ocean beach and 85km of shoreline.
Guests at Ohiwa Family Holiday Park, located on the eastern shores of Ohiwa Harbour, can enjoy a range of aquatic activities from swimming and shellfish collecting to boating and fishing, all right at their doorstep.
Fishing - surfcast directly off the beach or into the harbour entrance. Snapper is caught here all year round. Fishing charters can be arranged from Opotiki or Whakatane. The back country areas surrounding Ohiwa offer exceptional trout fishing.
Mountain biking - the Opotiki region has some of the best mountain biking in New Zealand. The quiet country roads lead into the hills and onto bush tracks and coastal routes providing thrill seekers with danger and speed. Contact the department of conservation for more information on local tracks.

Historic Opotiki - Visit all or just some of the 26 historic buildings and places while in Opotiki. The Opotiki Museum has a new building opened in December 2008 and is well worth inspection. All items have been collected locally and give a wonderful insight into the hardships of yesteryear.

Benefit from a two-lane, concrete boat ramp (easily accessible in all tides) and take your boat out on the water for a day of fun and sunshine. Make use of water skiing lanes, or simply throw your line out and catch a few fish for dinner. Designated jet skiing areas are also available.
