Ohiwa Harbour – a vast aquatic playground

During your stay at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park, you will be able to make the most of the beautiful Ohiwa harbour - right on your doorstep. It offers incredible wildlife, rich history, superb scenery and wonderful attractions in its 11km of ocean beach and 85km of shoreline.

Located on the eastern shores of Ohiwa HarbourOhiwa Beach Holiday Park guests enjoy a range of aquatic activities from swimming and shellfish collecting to boating and fishing, all only metres from their Ohope Beach accommodation.

Fishing – Surfcast directly off the beach or into the harbour entrance. Snapper is caught here all year round and fishing charters can be arranged from Opotiki or Whakatane.  The back country areas surrounding Ohiwa offer exceptional trout fishing.

Mountain Biking – The Opotiki region has some of the best mountain biking in New Zealand. The quiet country roads lead into the hills and onto bush tracks and coastal routes providing thrill seekers with danger and speed.  Contact the department of conservation for more information on local tracks.

Horse Riding – Opotiki is the rodeo capital of New Zealand and you can ride either on the beach or through the bush with the experienced team at Ready Rock Horse Treks.

Golf
– Enjoy a round of golf at Opotiki or Ohope Golf courses during your stay at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park.

White Water Kayaking – White water kayaking is popular in the Motu and Waioeka rivers.

Arts & Crafts – Opotiki is becoming well known as a base for artists and crafts people who are inspired in their creative talents by the beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Historic Opotiki – Visit all or just some of the 26 historic buildings and places while in Opotiki. The Opotiki Museum had a new building open in December 2008 and is well worth visiting. All items have been collected locally and give a wonderful insight into the hardships of yesteryear.

Events – Opotiki Rodeo, Motu River Challenge, Mega Mud slide, fun unplugged and many more Opotiki annual events.

Boating – A two-lane, concrete boat ramp (easily accessible in all tides) allows you to take your boat out on the water for a day of fun and sunshine. Make use of water skiing lanes, or simply throw your line out and catch a few fish for dinner. Designated jet skiing areas are also available.
