What a summer holiday at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park looks like

It’s our favourite time of year here at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park. Summer time brings visitors from far and wide to our neck of the woods to experience an authentic ‘Kiwi’ holiday.

The many qualities of Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park set us apart from other holiday destinations. We spend many hours maintaining and improving our site to offer the best accommodation and facilities to our guests.

But Ohiwa is so much more than just a holiday park.

It’s a dream location along the glistening East Coast. It offers an endless array of outdoor activities. And, above all, it creates long-lasting memories of sunshine, friends, family and summer fun.

Let’s take a look at what a summer holiday at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park looks like.

What would a Kiwi holiday be without a beach?

Kiwi holidays are often associated with beaches, but there are few locations as unique as ours.

We have uninterrupted access to both Ohiwa Beach and Ohiwa Harbour, offering two completely different settings to enjoy the ocean.

Ohiwa Harbour

There is something so peaceful about Ohiwa Harbour. The calm water and surrounding landscape give it a serene, natural beauty like that of an oil painting. The beauty of the harbour can be appreciated in all kinds of weather and people stop and take time to admire it.

Ohiwa Harbour is also home to a variety of water activities for our guests to enjoy.

Spanning over 2,000 hectares, Ohiwa Harbour is a mix of inlets, islands and sandbars, making it the perfect space for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. At high tide, Ohiwa Harbour is great for surfcasting, boat fishing or taking a dip in the fresh harbour water. And if you’re after shellfish, explore the harbour at low tide. Here you’ll find all sorts of treasures such as pipis, cockles, mussels and oysters.

We’re nestled on the harbour’s edge, only a few metres from the water. We have kayaks available for hire and can assist you in booking guided kayak tours or fishing charter trips.

Ohiwa Beach

If you like the white wash, Ohiwa Beach is a beautiful place to spend your summer holiday.

Build sandcastles, fly kites, sunbathe, jump the waves or bodysurf - Ohiwa Beach is your classic, white sand Kiwi beach with safe tides for ocean swimming. On a clear summer’s day, enjoy views of our resident active volcano, White Island, puffing away on the horizon.

We love watching our guests spend their days at Ohiwa Beach. Many take picnics down with them and stay the whole day, while others pop back for lunch (and sometimes, a snooze) before heading back for the afternoon.

The beach is such an important part of New Zealand culture.

A day at Ohiwa Beach is a quintessential Kiwi experience.

Holiday Park facilities and activities

A summer holiday at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park is not your average camping experience. Our facilities and on-site activities make staying here easy and fun, even if the weather is not what you were hoping for.

With plenty of facilities to keep the kids entertained, Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park is an ideal getaway for families. Our playground and bouncy cushion are big hits with the kids and both areas are well-maintained to ensure they are clean and safe all year-round. Our bouncy cushion is also protected by a shade sail so the kids can enjoy this for as long as they like.

Our pool is now ready for our guests to make the most of this summer. Fully fenced and secure, there is plenty of room for parents to watch their kids play from the pool side. We have also installed a toddler pool with a shade sail for the littlies.

A little rain is no big deal here at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park. We have a games room with a pool table, air hockey table and TV. The games room is a place where new friendships are made, especially when guests enjoy a little healthy competition together.

We also take huge pride in our communal kitchen and BBQ areas. Spacious and fully equipped with cooking supplies, this is a clean and convenient space for guests to prepare meals. For authentic Kiwi dining, we have BBQ areas right next to the dining room.

It’s important to us that we provide lots of things to do within the Park for our guests to enjoy.

We have kayaks and pedal cars for hire which are very popular year after year.

Cruise around the Holiday Park in a pedal car or take a kayak to Ohiwa Harbour for a tranquil kayaking experience.

Our amazing location is within easy access to walking tracks. Whether you’re after a light stroll with the family or a more challenging hike, we are surrounded by walking tracks of all levels.

Children’s programme

Our Children’s Programme will be open until the Sunday of Anniversary Weekend.

Each day we offer something new and exciting for the kids to enjoy. From jaunts on the water slide to building driftwood huts, there’s no reason for kids to be bored here. Our Children’s Programme will have them entertained for hours!

My family has been coming here since 1999. We love it and always have a great time! Facilities are always clean and well looked after and staff are helpful and friendly. We will be back for many years to come! - Sarah Paviour-Smith
