The beginning of the Park walking track is only metres from the nearest campsites. This track links up with the Ohiwa Nature Trail and the Onekawa Pa site / Bryan's Beach Loop track, which are covered below. Panoramic views of Ohiwa Harbour are available amongst a superb example of native coastal trees and shrubs.
The Ohiwa Nature Trail
The Ohiwa Nature Trail is a pleasant 30 minute walk that takes you through the bush and includes a waterfall and Glow Worm Grotto, then onto the Historic Onekawa pa site (Māori war fortification site). This pa site offers superb Pacific Ocean and White Island views. It is a great place to relax and read about the history of the area in a peaceful farmland and bush setting. Be sure to sign the visitor’s book.
Bryan's Beach Loop Track
Once at the Historic Onekawa pa site there is an option to continue the walk down to Bryan's Beach and back to the camp along the beach. This walk will take you anywhere from 65 minutes to 1 and a half hours depending on your fitness level and the time you have available. You will be rewarded with beautiful views and an uncrowded stretch of beach.
The Ohiwa Walkway travels between the beach, around the harbour and finishes at the boat ramp where there are new public toilet facilities. The walkway is approximately 4kms and povides a safe and quiet trail that is perfect for jogging or walking. The walkway takes in all the beauty of the Ohiwa Harbour and is available within metres of the park.
